Online Course - Mini 101 - Mini Soccer Rules This is a self-paced, online course for referees, coaches and players who want to learn or review the rules.

Online Referee Application

Referees should be 13 years of age or older and must attend indoor and outdoor training sessions and meetings as required. 12 year olds will be considered and are welcome to apply and attend the training sessions. If, after training, we do not feel an applicant is ready to referee,  they may volunteer to help out.  By watching and assisting experienced referees they will gain knowledge, experience and confidence and may be given an opportunity to referee later in the season.

Qualifications:
- confident, energetic and enthusiastic
- dependable, hard working
- understanding of soccer game and rules
- dedicated and self-motivated to train and improve their knowledge of the game


Responsibilities include:
- Arriving in uniform at the scheduled time (referees must purchase their own uniform and whistle).
- Setting up the fields before the game (this may include setting up portable nets)
- Assisting the teams with the warm up and practices
- Refereeing the game
- Making sure all equipment has been returned and the field is clear of all garbage and water bottles.

Training sessions are held both indoor and outdoor. The referee training for the outdoor season is  held in April and/or  May.

The training includes:
- responsibilities of the referee
- player safety & what to do in case of injuries
- review of the rules & testing
- on field instruction & practice (hand signals, following the play, making decisions, blowing the whistle loudly etc.)
- ongoing support, assistance and supervision during the season as required

Referees are paid by the hour, not by the game and are expected to arrive on time and fulfill all assigned responsibilities.
